Crocodile skin cabinet photograph box.
A sophisticated crocodile skin cabinet photograph box with metal handle and leather dividers. Containing portraits from Hong Kong, India and Egypt.
Hand-painted ‘Photographie’ box
A wooden box for cabinet photographs. Made in France and hand-painted with flowers and the word ‘Photographie’. Now containing a series of hand-coloured photographs of mostly French soldiers, very typical of World War One portraiture.
Green leather ‘exploration’ Album.
A confusing album. Externally it looks quite late but the interior pages are definitely early; perhaps someone was using up some old stock. The lithographic images are rather randomly spaced out throughout the album which is also unusual. They reflect, rather charmingly, ideas of travel, exploration and the sea. […]
‘Please shut the gate’ Album
A favourite early album of ours, left empty to preserve it. The leather is made to look like wood and the viewer is warned to ‘Please shut the gate.’
Metal-Edged CDV Album
An early Victorian carte de visite album with decorative metal bands around the edges and a double clasp mechanism typical of the 1860s.
Folding Leather Cabinet Photograph Frame
A folding leather cabinet photograph frame embossed with the initials J. L. (close but no cigar….). The leather covers are well-padded and the mounts have a Second Empire style coloured lithographic design. Look out for the travellers posed with their bags and umbrellas.
